During this retreat we will come together in community to support each other in consciously letting go of the past and opening to the New Year from a place of stability, ease and the inner freedom we find in deepening our practice.
In these uncertain times, old cultural narratives are dissolving and we are called to navigate the world differently. The Four Protective Meditations offer us protection from unwholesome tendencies and reinforce beneficial qualities essential to the path. They prevent us from getting lost in hopes and fears, and support us in aligning with the timeless teachings of the Dharma, thereby weaving ourselves back into the fabric of life.
These Four Meditations are:
Contemplation of the Body
Metta (Lovingkindness) Meditation
Reflection on Death
Recollection of the Buddha.
In the spirit of the monastic lifestyle the Seven or Eight Precepts will be offered as an option for those who wish to participate in not taking food after the mid day meal. We will invite everyone to participate in the five precepts, taking only what is offered, participating in the daily routine mindfully and with awareness, and attempting to reflect on our every activity as part of our practice. This will include Dharma teachings, guided and silent meditations, as well as chanting and simple ritual. The retreat will be held in Noble Silence, except for small group practice discussions and Q&R with the teachers.
