In this 4 week class series we explore the Buddha's teachings on the four qualities of the awakened heart: lovingkindess, compassion, sympathetic joy, equanimity.
As the mind is liberated through our meditation practice, so too the heart is freed. When these 4 qualities are well established in the heart / mind, there is a sense of “dwelling” in more peaceful "abodes" known as the Brahma Viharas or "Divine Abodes". This metaphor is pointing out the nature of the boundless heart- these qualities are available to us all to develop and deepen for greater well being. We will explore daily life exercises for developing this radiant and responsive heart as well as traditional meditations to cultivate these 4 heart qualities for greater balance, joy and ease in our meditation practice as well as in daily life.
This class is appropriate for students with meditation experience who would like to deepen their practice. Classes will include time for Metta, Compassion, Joy, and Equanimity meditations with instructions, teachings and group discussion, and is designed to deepen your practice within a supportive community.
